Time Flies When You're Having Rum!

Why yes, yes it does!

Bombs Away for the B-52!

This is a simple drink but a good one.
This is a special drink to me cause it's one I drink with my uncle and cousins when we get together. And if course I love anything that contains Kahlua and Baileys and this drink contains both.

Ingredients:(equal parts)
Kahlua
Baileys Irish Creme
Grand Marnier

First pour in the Kahlua
Then carefully pour the Baileys very slowly over a spoon
Finally top it with Grand Marnier, also poured slowly over a spoon.

If you do it right, you get a pretty cool layered drink effect. However, I speak from experience when I say even if you never get the layering part down, it's still a very yummy drink.

Five Wives Vodka can get a seat at the bar in Utah, not in Idaho

So it appears Five Wives Vodka has been banned in Idaho because it's "offensive to Mormons," but not in Utah with the bigger Mormon population. Personally I think they're making too much of this.

Besides, I guess if you have Five Wives, you really need some vodka. :)

In Utah, you can never have too many wives bringing your vodka, but in Idaho? Not so much, please. The state Liquor Control Division in Boise has ruled that Five Wives Vodka, with a whimsical label featuring five lasses with hiked skirts, isn’t going on sale at state-controlled liquor stores.

In other words, you can buy vodka that winks at polygamy in Salt Lake City but not in Pocatello; there, it’s considered “offensive."

Beating a Hangover

We all know the worst part of drinking is The Morning After. So I'd be remiss if I didn't share the strategies that work for me in avoiding and treating hangovers. Of course my methods won't work for everyone, so feel free to leave your own tips in the comments.

First you have to understand the hangover. A big part of it is dehydration: that's what gives you the pounding headache and cottonmouth. By keeping yourself hydrated, you may be able to avoid a hangover altogether. This method has helped me since my uncle shared it with me well, before I could legally drink. If I know there's a party or other event coming up, I'll make sure to get plenty of water the week before. That's right, I prepare my body for a night of drinking. The night I am drinking, I'll slip in some glasses of water. That usually works for me.

If you get a hangover anyway, the sooner you can get rehydrated, the better you will feel. I usually keep Gatorade on hand for just such an occasion and it usually works wonders.

Now about that stomach...
A night of drinking can tear up your stomach. A long time ago, I read that burnt toast can help because the carbon on top of the bread helps to settle your stomach. It tastes awful, but it does seem to help a hangover. I've tried it several times. Once you get something in your stomach, you may be able to keep more food down and kick the hangover faster.

Which brings me to the next cure: a greasy breakfast. I know so many people who swear by Waffle House as a hangover cure. Personally I haven't gone to Waffle House with a hangover but plenty of people do.

Finally I guess there's the "hair of the dog" remedy. I've never tried this myself because it seems to me it would set up a cycle of perpetual drinking, but I had an ex who tried it and said it worked like a charm. Just have a little beer or a shot and supposedly you'll be fine. I guess this is why Mimosas and Bloody Mary's are so popular at brunch

So I will leave you with this last bit of wisdom which has usually held true for me. Beer before liquor, never been sicker. Liquor before beer, everything's clear. Happy partying and may your hangovers be either nonexistent or over quickly.

S'Mores Martini

What's a good Memorial Day weekend drink? I had to think about this. Since a lot of people go camping on Memorial Day weekend, I decided to go with this drink recipe to give you an outdoorsy camping feel.

I originally found this (as I find a lot of drink ideas nowdays) on Pinterest but it came from a great article on FlipCup.com

First take Chocolate Syrup and place it on a plate.
Take the Martini Glass upside down and Coat the entire Rim.
Finish the coat with Gram Cracker for the SMORES

In Mixer pour the following (equally)
Three Olives Vanilla Vodka,
Creme da Coco,
Baileys,
Amaretto,
Milk

Mix them all and Pour into Martini Glass.  Take Marshmallow Syrup and pour over the top of the Creamy Liquor Foam.  Take a Roasted Marshmallow and put on Rim on glass for decoration.
